Money is spiritual
When we were born onto this earth, and our souls took the form of a human body for the next 60-100 years, we also took on the responsibility of caring for our physical bodies. Because if we don’t we can’t survive.
We also, when we came into corporeal form took on the laws of our universe and one of the laws is the Law of Gender (or the Law of Polarity also works) and therefore each of us has both masculine and feminine energy in us.
We have the survival instinct…so yeah we gotta survive!
But on a larger scale, we were meant to live abundant lives. Our natural state is a state of abundance, where we’re thriving and giving and able to share our spirituality and our gifts & talents.
I mean let’s look at it through the lense of self-care which has a similar function.
I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase “put your own oxygen mask on before helping others,” why is this necessary? Because if you don’t you die!
Same thing with self-care, if you don’t take care of yourself you get burnt-out, crabby, helpless, and hopeless.
And hey! Same things with money! If you are constantly worried about how you’re going to pay for your next meal…then you won’t be able to show up and serve.
Money has a million functions in our lives..and those don’t necessarily have anything to do with being greedy or selfish, things like paying our bills, paying for healthcare, pet care etc.
And even things that could be considered slightly more “greedy” like getting a massage, or hiring someone to clean the house, or taking a vacation all have spiritual purposes. Self-care anyone?!?
Money is love.
Think of it this way, I’m willing to bet that you love having hot water, and a roof over your head, and I bet you love being able to pay for your doctors visits…and I bet you love all this stuff just as much as you love getting a new pair of shoes.
All of this love energy is a catalyst for our spiritual journeys, or if you want a slightly less woo-woo way of putting it our journeys of self-discovery.
The problem is that society has taught us at every turn that money is evil, money corrupts, winning the lottery will make you go crazy, rich people are bad, crazy, super demanding, etc.
And so on a very basic level we as a society believe that money is bad.
But in reality a person who is supported financially can do amazing things with their money.
I guess you could argue that bad people sometimes get money…but that’s always going to be true. Just like a bad person can get a car and run people over with it…money's just a tool really to carry out what you need and want in life. Nothing more nothing less.
So if you consider yourself a good person wouldn’t it make sense to earn a bunch of money to support good things like charity, human rights, healing each other, sharing your talents, enjoying your life, and helping your fellow man?
Our life purposes are unique to every single one of us, and we can’t show up for them unless we’re supported physically (i.e. we have food to eat, a place to de-stress, and a way to pay our bills).
You can’t do any of that if you’re stuck with low funds and a desperate feeling like you’ll never make enough money to pay for your root canal.
Money is just energy.
And we have the responsibility to examine and care for each part of our energetic lives that are out of balance, living in shadow, or causing us pain.
That is if we want to share our talents in this lifetime and follow our purposes whatever they may be…bongo player, full-time mother, president…

why we can’t ignore the spiritual side of money
We’ve already established that we need money to survive.
And even to thrive (i.e. self-care).
And we’ve taken a look at how money can actually make you a better person.
But it is true that it’s a big responsibility. I mean imagine if you win the lottery. You’d probably have relatives you haven’t spoken to in 10 years knocking down your door.
And so here comes the importance of looking at money with a spiritual lense…B-O-U-N-D-A-R-I-E-S!!! say it with me!!!
Boundary leaks, i.e. giving your long-lost relatives money just so they shut up and go away, are issues that would have existed within you whether or not you had money.
Chances are this boundary issue of being unable to say no to something you don’t want to do has shown up in your life before. Like perhaps your boss asked you to take on another project, or a friend asked you for a loan to pay her rent.
Boundaries are bound tightly to money…see what I did there?? ^_^ and money just acts as the catalyst for your problems.
It isn’t until you get good at saying “no” that your problems will move on to another area of your life (hahaha).
Healthy boundaries like…
…saying to your long-lost relatives, “Unfortunately I can’t loan you 20,000$, but here’s the number for a bank down the street,”
…or saying to your boss, “I’m sorry but my plate is extremely full right now, I’d be willing to help on smaller tasks but I can’t commit to running a new project,”
…or saying to your friend, “hey I’d love to help you out but I just don’t lend money to friends it’s never gone well for me,”
But on another level we may be keeping money from arriving to us…
Unhealthy beliefs & boundaries can cause money problems
Apart from just the boundary problems we may be facing when we DO receive money…our beliefs are likely stopping us from receiving money…
When we were younger, ages 0-7 to be exact, our subconscious minds (a.k.a. our egos) were formed.
And during those formative years we began to create the beliefs that would stick with us for the rest of our lives.
So while you were a child if your parents said things like…
…”money doesn’t grow on trees,”
…”if you’re rich it means you screwed somebody over,”
…”we can’t afford that,”
…”money is the root of all evil,”
hahaaa…there are a million more of these that come to mind as I’m typing and I’m realizing how deeply our society distrusts money! wowwww!!
Those thoughts & beliefs begin when we are young, and throughout the years are reinforced by what we see around us and how others act. We’re like big sponges…and so even if we don’t necessarily believe something true we can still be operating under the control of the subconscious mind.
How to discover your subconscious beliefs about money
Once we begin this journey of discovering our deeply held beliefs about money we will probably be shocked at how much we actually distrust money, and the universe.
This will eventually lead to us being able root out these beliefs and create a different belief system, one that more closely aligns with our desires in life.
Here’s several different ways of discovering what your subconscious mind is telling you:
Word association. Write down or say out loud the first word that comes to mind when you hear/read the following sentences:
Money is _____________.
When I think about money the first feeling I feel is__________.
What does your mind come up with? If you’re like me the first word was probably green, lol, just ask for the second or third word and you’ll find something a bit more interesting.
Listening. Go to the store, or open a new tab with Amazon and start looking through the listings with the express purpose of hearing what your subconscious mind is repeating to you.
“I can’t afford that,” “That’s too much money,” “I shouldn’t buy that for myself,” etc.
Identifying your blocks. Identifying your blocks means that you take a look at what you’d like to achieve in your life and then you identify what behaviors are holding you back.
For example, imagine that you want to become a famous ice dancer. You know that to become a famous ice dancer you have to get off the couch, off your phone, and book a lesson with someone.
Perhaps you’ve looked for lessons, but you haven’t been serious about applying. Is this laziness? Probably not, it’s probably some subconscious beliefs that start coming up for you that hold you back. Like, “it’s not safe to meet strangers,” “I’ll look like an idiot,” “I’m too old to become a successful ice dancer,”
And then your subconscious mind will probably protect you from going outside of your comfort zone because that’s its job!
