From the first moment I felt that little popcorn feeling in my tummy that meant my baby was kicking me...I knew ly life would be in for a big change

I always wanted the work-from-home lifestyle and everything it afforded but now there was something deeper in it for me.

I wanted to be a stay-at-home mom.

Yeah I know we’re supposed to want to be CEOs or Presidents…but for me the answer was clear…I wanted to be a mom.

AND I wanted to be creative, make my own money, and not have to spend the precious few hours of my child’s young life strapped to a desk wondering if so-and-so liked me, when I would get my next pay raise, or if that memo finally reached the Houston office…ya know.

That’s my WHY…for that little kicker in my belly.

And so today I’m going to be talking about how you can earn that first 1k in your business.

Because I know it’s hard to do a ton of work, and feel like you’re going nowhere…

Or even just wanting to prove to yourself that you can do this!

how to start earning money in your business

This is gonna be an unpopular opinion…I think…but when you’re first starting out with your blog, I don’t really want you to focus on passive income.

The fastest, and most direct way to earning with your business is to offer some kind of service package.

Now am I saying that you should ignore the content upgrades, email newsletters, and monetized blog posts of the world? No….

Just that if you have…let’s say 20 hours a week…to work on your blog. I want you to dedicate maybe 5 of those on passive income, and the other 15 on getting clients.

If you’re wondering what the heck you should be offering as a service, here are some ideas:

  • Copywriting

  • Tarot card reading

  • Graphic design

  • VA work

  • Business coaching

  • Life coaching

  • Building websites

  • Social media management

  • Photography

  • Email marketing

  • Ads management (think Facebook ads)

Honestly the sky is the limit here, and it’s a personal decision to really get acquainted with yourself and decide a) what you really love doing and b) what you’re good at doing.

Why do I want you to start with services?

It comes down to this…buildling a passive income empire takes A LOT of time.

I’m talking several months to build up the kind of library of content and affiliate marketing, and tinkering with your website and social media to get the right formula to eventually drive traffic, traffic meaningful enough to actually make you more than a few dollars each month.

You can see where I’m going with this.

Yes, there is some startup time involved with offering services, but the woman-power-hours needed to set up a simple sales page, and write a few pieces of sales copy pale in comparison to building out passive income.

So where do you start??? Keep reading I’m gonna walk you through the initial steps of getting your first 1k or even 4k client!

Luckily for you I’ve outlined all the necessary steps it will take you to get your first client. You can find that in the aptly named, “get your first client challenge” sign up for free below…

    how to create an offer

    1. create an offer

To get your first client, the first step is to create an offer.

No you don’t need fancy headshots, no you don’t need to spend hours installing and fiddling with a website, no you don’t need expensive software to begin.

    You simply need an offer!

To create an offer here are the minimum things you need:

Intuition intuitive entrepreneurs how to get clients get clients marketing how to get clients social media entrepreneurs spiritual entrepreneurs empath entrepreneurs attract clients manifest clients getting clients coach coaching business coach blogger bloggers blogging get clients fast tips get clients posts make money blogging blogging income blog income earn money blogging tripwire make money with your blog how to make money with a blog

    The Title

Not even terribly important for some types of services, but something descriptive over clever and shows what it is your offering, and for who.

    The results

100% the meat of your offer. This is WHAT their life will be like after working with you.

Are you a baby sleep consultant? “Sleep through the night”

Are you a life coach? “Finally finish that creative project you’ve been putting off for years”

Are you a business coach? “Sell out your coaching practice in 90 days”

There’s a reason why I’m not asking you to do your ideal client worksheet or pick out the brand colors that are gonna provoke the exact right feeling with your audience…because those things, while definitely helpful, are extra. Your #1 goal when trying to make your first 1k? Trying to make your first 1k…lol but seriously get to the meat of this and get serious about the results that you’re offering.

It’s the only reason people will ever buy your service or product.

    The deliverables

These are the nuts and bolts of your offer. How long will they spend with you? Is it group coaching or 1:1 coaching? Is it a service that you provide? Do you offer email support?

Make a list of what is included in this section, and consider adding one or two bonuses.

The main thing here is to make everything results oriented.

    The price

Simply put how much does this package cost?

    2. Get in touch

After you create your offer you need to start reaching out to potential clients.

No you don’t need to master Pinterest, or grow your Instagram following to 10,000 subsribers. No it’s not necessary to host a webinar or create 10 freebies.

You need to reach out to real people.

I’m honestly tired of people saying “ask for referrals” knowing that most of the time you don’t have family and friends in your life that need your coaching.

So I won’t say that, except to say that if you know of someone who *specifically needs the service that you offer, give them a call.

Other, more lucrative things you can do to get in touch with potential clients:

    • Answer relevant questions in relevant Facebook groups (note I’m not saying spam a group with your offer)

    • Offer free mini-sessions to connect with potential clients

    • Write 1 blog post which links to a mini-session with you (note I’m not asking you to launch your blog with 20 posts, I’m saying 1 or 2 relevant blog posts per month might bring you in some leads)

    • Figure out where your ideal audience is, and find them

    • Do interviews or podcasts to present something important in your niche.

The main takeaway from all of this is two things:

    1. Meet people where they are, get used to reaching out to them, telling them who you are, connecting with them…but most of all…

    2. Figure out how you can help them and then help them!

how to start earning with passive income

None of this is going to happen overnight. Yes, it’s true that getting clients is a lot faster than building passive income on a website in terms of getting money into your account. But I still think there’s a lot to be said about building up your passive income streams in an easy-peasy way while you search for and contact clients.

It took me over a year to get 100$ in passive income from the advertisements on my site.

It took me only 1 month to get 700$ in income from my coaching services!

    passive income types

Here are just some of the ways that you can make passive income from your blog or website. To start with I’d choose just one, and capitalize on that!

    • Printables

    • Affiliate links

    • Advertisements

    • Products (digital or physical)

    • Sponsored posts

    advertisements

My favorite way to begin to think about passive income is to start with the basics: advertisements.

Most bloggers will start out with google adsense on their blogs as it doesn’t have a minimum pageview requirement.

It’s pretty meager what you make from Adsense at the beginning but, hey it’s something! And while you’re building up your pageviews to start with a higher payout company like MediaVine (minimum is 25,000 pageviews a month) it’s something!

    Affiliate Links

For beginners, I usually recommend that you start with one company. I don’t necessarily recommend Amazon because you HAVE to make a sale within the first 3 or 6 months to qualify.

Awin is one of my favorites…but there are a million affiliate companies out there that you can apply for!

Though seriously, take it slow, choose one strong affiliate and write articles for that affiliate to begin with.

    products

Another great way to make a little extra cash each month is to create a small product. My tripwire was one of the first things that I sold on my blog! It was so exciting to watch that money come in…and it doesn’t have to take that long to set up.

Here’s a video I made about how to set up a tripwire for your blog and start earning some cash right away.
