Our physical environment is an expression of our inner world.

Instagram.

Email.

Netflix.

During most of our waking ours there is not even a moment of silence.

We'ce become connected 24/7, and our impressionable minds a dumping ground for...well anything.

Stuff we see on Instagram, TV, or falling down the YouTube rabbit hole.

With so much stuff filling up our time and our minds, things like internal emotional states and physical (home) spaces become secondary.

Well now it's time to LET GO of that constant connection and focus on the reality of our physical spaces.

Almost everything in our outward worlds is governed by our inner worlds.

So if we have our minds constantly on snapchat, pinterest, or instagram we are filled up with really pretty images.

I mean I know I love looking at pretty things on Pinterest!

We see image after image of how our house is supposed to look...you know...perfectly organized, professionally lit, with a designer's touch.

And compared to our own houses these are the super houses! The stuff of dreams and commercials.

Enter shame.

Why doesn't my house look like that? I don't have enough money to do something like that. I don't have enough time to organize or redecorate!

This is a pattern I struggle with A LOT. And it's something that extends not only to my house, but my body image, and my self-esteem in general.

So what should we do to declutter the house?

Let the shame spiral carry us and move on to the next pretty picture in the feed?

No savvy reader...that is exactly what we should not do!

Our job is to give ourselves grace.

Once we catch ourselves falling into a shame spiral we:

STOP.

Take a breath.

and Close our eyes for a little mindfulness meditation.

Like this one:

"I am worthy. I am grateful. I am devoted."

Why devoted? we'll get to that in a moment.

You see...instead of letting our minds wander into self-down and comparisson land when we see that perfectly organized and professionally lit kitchen we have to stop ourselves.

This is not the path we want to go down...we want freedom from that self-doubt and shame.

We can download 1,000 checklists or house-cleaning schedules, but when it comes down to it, keeping a clean house is something we need to correct internally.

Instead of using the checklists for a week maybe and then dropping them out of our lives...into the ever growing pile of scrap paper.

We have to stop ourselves.

We switch gears by stopping the mindless search through our feed, and just take a breath and focus on our mantras.

Here is a free meditation to get you started before cleaning or decluttering.

So how then do we begin to declutter?

We've got part one to keeping a clean and decluttered house: decluttering and centering our minds.

Now we need to actually get up off our meditation pillows and well...clean.

There are lots of strategies out there. This is my favorite book for example:

And I'll give you a free checklist and planning workbook to search through:

But, it all boils down to one special word: devotion.

Remember I said I'd mention this word later?

Devotion is love.

Devotion is selfless.

Devotion is showing others (and yourself) that you care!

I'm sure you love the people you live with, or at least respect them (if you don't hire a cleaning lady).

And if you live alone, then this is an awesome chance to show yourself that you care about yourself.

Another great option is buying yourself chocolate :) But I digress!

Devotion is proving that you care enough to sacrifice your comfort (netflix and PJs anyone?) and keep a clean space.

So when it comes to cleaning our houses we must practice and learn the art of devotion.

Cultivating devotion is the real path to keeping a clutter-free and sparkling clean physical space.

Remember to get your free meditation, and the workbook. The workbook helps you work through cultivating devotion (along with the meditation).
